The easiest way to cook juicy, tender chicken breasts in your air fryer. Learn our favorite quick salting trick that keeps the meat from drying out.

Helps the seasoning stick and gives the chicken a nice, golden surface.
Essential for drawing moisture in and keeping the meat extra juicy.
For a classic, savory garlic touch.
Gives the chicken a rich color and a hint of smoky flavor.
Pairs perfectly with the garlic powder.
Adds a nice touch of green herbs.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Salt the chicken
Pat the chicken breasts completely dry with paper towels. Sprinkle the salt evenly over both sides, then let them sit on a wire rack at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Salting the chicken ahead of time draws moisture in and locks it in place, keeping the chicken incredibly juicy as it cooks.
Coat with oil and spices
Rub the olive oil all over the chicken breasts. Mix the garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, and oregano in a small bowl, then coat the chicken evenly, pressing the spices so they stick.
A little oil helps the chicken brown evenly and keeps the dry spices from burning in the hot air flow.
Warm up the air fryer
Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and let it run for 5 minutes to warm up.
Starting with a hot air fryer is key—it sears the outside of the chicken immediately to lock in those delicious juices.
Air fry the chicken
Place the chicken breasts in the basket, leaving a little space between them. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping them over halfway through.
Flipping the chicken halfway through ensures that the hot air cooks both sides evenly.
Check the temperature and let it rest
Stick an instant-read meat thermometer into the thickest part of the chicken. Take them out of the air fryer when they reach 160°F (71°C), then let them rest on a cutting board for 5 minutes before slicing.
Don't cut into it right away! The chicken will finish cooking to a safe 165°F while resting. If you slice it immediately, all the juices will run out onto your cutting board.

- Pound them even: If your chicken breasts are very thick on one side, pound them to an even thickness so they cook at the exact same rate.
- Watch the clock: Chicken breast is very lean, so even a minute or two of overcooking can turn it dry and chalky.
- Use our Brine Calculator to figure out the perfect amount of salt if you're doubling the recipe for meal prep.
